Please review the following job description:

Assemble and analyze accounting and financial records used in the preparation of state and federal tax returns. Assist managers in research and planning. Supervise workflow of, and provide technical assistance to, staff accountants.

On February 7, 2019, it was announced that SunTrust Banks, Inc. and BB&T Corporation intend to merge, with the combined entity to be named Truist Financial Corporation (“Truist”). The merger is subject to regulatory approval, and BB&T and SunTrust remain separate and independent companies until the merger closes. This position, which would be for a role with Truist or an affiliate, is contingent upon the merger receiving regulatory approval and closing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  1. Participate extensively in the preparation of all tax records and information required for proper completion of municipal, state and federal tax returns.

  2. Participate extensively in the review of state and federal tax returns prepared by Tax Accountants I and II.

  3. Interpret tax laws relating to state and federal income, franchise taxes and situations within BB&T.

  4. Prepare and/or review general ledger account reconciliations.

  5. Prepare and/or review selected subsidiary tax provisions and financial statements.

  6. Assist in representation of BB&T in audits by federal and state taxing authorities.

  7. Participate extensively in the preparation and maintenance of records necessary for proper income statement and balance sheet presentation of tax information in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  8. Oversee the preparation of state and federal estimated tax payments.

  9. Research and present conclusions on complicated tax questions using printed and online research materials.

  10. Assist Corporate Tax Managers with special projects. Required Skills and Competencies:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or equivalent education and related training

  2. Four years of financial reporting experience in the financial services industry or a public accounting firm

  3. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office products

  4. Excellent interpersonal skills

  5. Ability to share/leverage knowledge by assisting tax staff in professional development

  6. Strong technical knowledge of tax law relating to state, federal income and franchise taxes

  7. Ability to apply technical tax law knowledge to situations within BB&T

  8. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities

  9. Strong written and verbal communication skills

  10. Detail oriented with an emphasis on accuracy and consistency

  11. Ability to adjust priorities and work load to meet deadlines

  12. Ability to travel, occasionally overnight Desired Skills or Competencies:

  13. Experience in a tax reporting position

  14.
