As a member of the Enterprise Data Team, the Junior Data Analyst is responsible for helping develop Sterling Capital Management’s data quality as we expand our focus on aggregation, storage, integration, and access to foundational data. The focus for this role will be on data accuracy, by utilizing SQL jobs/queries to ensure data accuracy across all applications. Responsibilities include ensuring the data of our firm flows between applications effectively and will work to optimize current data flow processes. A successful candidate will be forward thinking with the ability to take problems and turn them into solutions to meet our challenging business needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 1. Responsible for completing daily tasks in relation to the security master. 2. Ensuring data accuracy between our applications. 3. Knowledge and proficiency in utilizing SQL to pull, filter, and sort data from databases. 4. Proactively identify problems/issues concerning data accuracy and data integrity. 5. Experience working with business stakeholder to identify valuable data insights. 6. Provide the highest level of customer service to our internal partners. 7. Ability to translate business requirements into actionable data tasks. 8. Ability to learn unique database systems and understand the underlying elements' impact on the business. 9. Responsible for understanding current data flows and integrations to ensure processes are working properly. 10. Monitor email box for data issues. 11. Perform reconciliation of transactions and security data flow between Charles River and APX. 12. Perform root cause analysis of data issues to ensure custom jobs are working as expected. 13. Work closely with development staff to understand processes and potentially drive change to continually optimize systems integration. Required Skills and Competencies: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training and work-related experience. 2. Solution oriented with a customer service focus. 3. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 4. Strong attention to detail. 5. Strong time management skills. 6. Solid interpersonal and relationship building skills that enable cross-functional partnerships. 7. Strong experience using Microsoft Excel for data manipulation, creation of formulas, VLOOKUP’s, and pivot tables. Desired Skills: 1. Willingness to take on new challenges, ask hard questions, and take leadership of solutions. 2. Strong understanding of financial service industry, with a strong knowledge of equity and fixed income security types, including municipals, mortgage backs and VRN’s. 3. Experience with Advent’s APX, Charles River IMS, and Bloomberg. 4. Ability to tune SQL queries and procedures for reliability. 5. Experience with an EDM/Data Warehouse. 6. Experience writing SQL scripts. 7. Experience with Java. 8. 2+ years working in a BI group. 9. Experience working with ETL processes utilizing SSIS/SSRS.
