Job Description

SunTrust is seeking a detail-oriented and creative Unix/Linux systems administrator to work on the second shift, 3 - 11pm. This position is responsible for providing the technical expertise and guidance in the Incident Management process and will be responsible for working within the Incident/Request queue, ensuring that the underlying cause of incidents is addressed and driving operational stability. This includes fulfilling user requests, resolving service failures, fixing problems, as well as, carrying out routine operational tasks for our business organizations. The candidate will execute operational and project activities required to maintain and enhance functionality of the SunTrust computing environment. This position will be located in Atlanta, GA.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implements technical improvements/projects that increase the quality and availability of the business systems/services and ensures proper operation.
  • Conducts the analysis and communication of support and/or project requirements, updates, metrics, and general information.
  • Analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems, and develops and implements strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Conducts incident resolution and problem management by investigating Root Cause Analysis (RCA), capturing action items, and conducting remediation plans.
  • Proactively monitors applications and systems in order to capture, triage, and escalate Incidents.
  • Audits computing environment configurations to support ongoing solution development and testing functions.
  • Leads and executes operational activities, troubleshooting, enhancements, test readiness development, and maintenance plans to ensure proper operation of the business system/services are optimized.
  • Develops and implements standard process and technical improvements that increase the quality of the products that are delivered into production.
  • Develops, recommends, and executes changes to complex systems.
  • Solves technical and operational problems.
  • Scheduled to work evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Knowledge in information systems and ability to apply that knowledge in practice.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to solve problems in straightforward situations by analyzing possible solutions using experience, judgment and precedents.
  • Experience participating in IT projects.
  • Ability to communicate complex information in straightforward situations.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 2+ years’ experience with Red Hat Linux
  • AIX experience
  • Ability to solve complex problems by applying best practices.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to solve problems in straightforward situations by analyzing possible solutions using experience, judgment and precedents.
  • Understanding of key business processes and competitive strategies related to the IT function.
  • Understanding of SDLC and ITIL methodology, strategy, and tools.
  • Understanding of computing platforms such as server, network, and storage subsystems.
