Job Description

The Acquisition Finance Execution & Structuring (AFES) group supports and facilitates new revenue growth through integrated origination and execution of capital structure alternatives and traditional banking revenue products across multiple specialty product and client coverage teams.

AFES partners with Investment Banking Coverage and Debt Capital Markets to provide competitive debt solutions for Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) and Commercial clients as well as private equity investors involved in mergers, acquisitions, recapitalizations and other highly leveraged and complex financial transactions.

AFES directs the execution process and activities necessary for obtaining SunTrust’s balance sheet commitment and provides credit guidance to capital markets committees for syndication decisions.

AFES provides structuring expertise, performs complex financial modeling and analysis, conducts extensive due diligence, prepares credit memoranda, negotiates legal documentation and manages the closing process before transitioning accounts to Portfolio Management.

AFES is organized with dedicated and highly experienced deal execution teams to support the CIB Practice Groups, Corporate Banking and Commercial Banking.

This Associate would work closely with senior underwriters supporting the Technology and Financial services industries.Job duties include conducting in-depth due diligence, identifying key risks & mitigants and investment considerations, creating projection models and assisting with all aspects of the credit approval process. The successful candidate will also support senior underwriters with the negotiation of key deal terms and legal documentation.

Qualifications The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of relevant experience with a strong foundation in accounting, corporate finance, financial modeling, legal documentation, and credit policy. This person is a team player that works well with multiple constituents across SunTrust Bank and SunTrust Robinson Humphrey platforms. Core skills & competencies include:

  • Deep knowledge and experience in accounting, financial analysis and forecasting
  • Independence and objectivity, with the courage and experience to successfully promote and defend credit decisions and positions in verbal and written communications
  • Strong attention to detail, while maintaining a holistic approach to investment analysis
  • Completion of a major corporate or commercial credit training program or the equivalent banking/finance experience Education, certifications & licenses:

  • An undergraduate degree is required; Bachelor of Science in Business (or related field) is preferred

  • A Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or CFA Charterholder, or FINRA Series 7/63 license is preferred.
